Epicor Upgrades provide businesses the ability to harness new technology to achieve business improvement, to remain on a supported version of the software, and to avoid technology obsolescence.
The Client First team has been working with Epicor and Epicor Upgrades for many years. We have successfully upgraded dozens of systems for a variety of businesses and industries. Our Epicor Consulting team started with version Vista/Vantage 6.1, and today we are deploying the latest version Epicor 10.
Epicor Upgrade migration is our specialty. We employ the Epicor Signature methodology to ensure a seamless consistent process. Using this methodology help manage costs. We perform a pre-upgrade analysis to identify the modifications you may have in your current ERP solution and determine how they should be handled. The primary benefit of performing this analysis upfront is the ability to minimize unexpected “surprises” that often occur via unmanaged upgrades.
When considering an upgrade, some of the things we consider to ensure existing code and corresponding data are successfully converted. One question to determine was the modification written for functionality that is now in the standard Epicor solution? Epicor 10 today does much more than the original Epicor Vista/Vantage solutions did. If it is now base functionality, we will create data conversion routines to migrate your historical data from the modifications into the current Epicor version. Another question to answer, Is the modification no longer used? In this case, we ensure past data migrates smoothly and can ignore the enhancements as we migrate you to the newest version. When analyzing legacy data it must be determined how good the legacy data is. If the company want to redo Part numbers or GL numbers, it may be a better option to not upgrade and perform a new install. Convert and migrate only the desired data. The CFBS Epicor Upgrade team will help walk the customer thru these decisions.
In order to avoid business downtime and disruption, CFBS use the latest ‘sandbox’ technology to do the bulk of the upgrade work in an offline system where it can be thoroughly tested before being put into your production environment.
Full Documentation– One reason upgrades can be so difficult is they were often originally written by ‘amateurs.’ These are folks who just ‘coded’ as they went along to meet your needs. End users were happy to get the functionality they needed. This method can be less expensive, but it results in a solution that is difficult or impossible to upgrade without painstaking manual reverse engineering of the original programming. Often it needs to be completely rewritten since we don’t know what is going on in the code. At Clients First, we fully document our upgrade methods so that even if you choose a different company down the road to do future upgrades, its quick and painless since they know how and why your system works the way it does.
The importance of project management. Clients First will assign a project manager to manage the upgrade process to keep it on-time and on-budget.
